Redesigned for 1961, Buick took on a cleaner overall look. The fins were gone and the cars weighed between 100 and 200 pounds less. The "Special" name was re-introduced as the base model. The grille filled the entire front of the car capped with two headlights on each side. The front bumper featured relatively small (for Buick) bullets at each end. Spear-shaped body sculpting began slightly forward of the headlights and continued to the rear of the car.
