Shedding all of the ostentation of 1958, the 1959 Buicks were well-designed. Featuring oversized windshields, canted headlights and tail-fins to match, the car was relieved of the massive amounts of chrome of the'58s. Chrome trim did run across the top edge of the fins, swooping down and across the trailing edge of the trunk. Simple bullet-shaped taillights completed the look. The 401 cid V-8 engine was introduced in the top-of-the-line Buicks, producing 325 horsepower. New monikers were provided: the Special became the LeSabre; Century's became Invicta's; and Super's and Roadmaster's were now titled Electra and Electra 225.
