In 1955 the "toothed" grille was replaced with a mesh screen. On each side, large chrome bars ran forward from the front of the wheel well, wrapped about a quarter of the way across in front of the grille and terminated with large bullet bumper guards. Jet inspired chrome-laden tail light housings completed an even more fin-like rear fender. The Dynaflow transmission was reworked to use variable-pitch stator blades. Under hard acceleration, the blades would open up, and return to their original position at cruising speeds, similar to variable-pitch airplane propellers. This feature did remove much of the sluggishness of the earlier models.
